How much do lessons cost?
Lessons currently cost £28 per 80 minute session, equivalent to an hourly rate of £21. We are registered with OFSTED as a childcare provider enabling all employed parents to make further savings by paying with childcare vouchers. Parents who are entitled to Working Tax Credits can claim back up to 80% of tuition fees.
How can I pay?
Payment can be made monthly by standing order or in full for the term, where a 5% discount is applied, thereby reducing the weekly cost to the equivalent of under £20 per hour.
What if my child misses a lesson?
Your child is allocated a weekly slot and missed lessons therefore have to be paid for at the time. However, we we will do our best to find an alternative space as a 'catch-up', and consequently we particularly ask that we are notified of any absences at the earliest opportunity to allow other 'catch-ups' to be accommodated.
How many children are taught by the teacher?
Your child will be taught in a group of between two and five children. Children work on their own individual programmes and are not taught collectively, the tutor being available at all times to provide constant guidance. Since groups are often formed of different ages following different subjects, there is little interaction between pupils and no competition or fear of failure.
How do you monitor progress?
Your child's tutor monitor's progress each week and prepares the following week's programme accordingly. Where appropriate, we additionally look to carry out a termly reassessment, the results of which are fed back to the parent. You are always welcome to discuss your child's progress at a mutually convenient time.
Will there be homework?
With parents permission, homework is normally given on a weekly basis to reinforce the week's lesson and to provide continuity. The following week's lesson anticipates the completion of the homework and it is hoped that parents will provide direction in this. Homework will generally take no more than 20 minutes, other than for those pupils following a course of reading, where repetition is of the essence.
